“Coral Reef Keepers: Parrotfish Diet, Dentition, and Digestion”
2024

Infographic poster
Overview:
Dissected a parrotfish independently at the Evans Lab at Rice University with detailed notes and sketches. Researched previous examples of figures of parrotfish oral and pharyngeal jaws from scientific literature. Studied 3d skeletal reconstruction of parrotfish specimen head. Developed a composition centering on the digestive system of the parrotfish, making decisions between stylized and realistic visualizations for different elements. Improved on previous depictions of pharyngeal teeth with implementation of an oblique view. Researched parrotfish behavior and ecology in coral reef habitats. Applied text as guided by Dr. Kory Evans.
Objectives:
Independent animal dissection, anatomical research, animal behavior research, ecological research, communication with expert biologist, reading of 3d reconstruction images, perspective, color, composition, visual storytelling, visual communication for general audience
